Cardamom, also known as cardamon, is a spice made from the seeds of plants in the Elettaria and Amomum genera, belonging to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). It is the world's third most expensive spice, after vanilla and saffron. Cardamom has a unique and strong flavor, as well as an intensely aromatic, resinous scent. It is commonly used to flavor foods and drinks, and also in medicine. In Indian cuisine, cardamom is one of the most important ingredients, and it is also used in baking, to season basmati rice, and traditionally in coffee and tea.
