Coriander Seeds
Coriander, also known as Chinese parsley and commonly referred to as cilantro in its fresh form, is an annual herb in the Apiaceae family. It is widely used in cuisines around the globe, with its seeds offering a unique lemony citrus flavor when crushed. Described as warm, nutty, spicy, and orange-flavored, coriander seeds are essential in many spice blends like garam masala and are frequently used in Indian curries, often combined with cumin. They are also widely used in pickling vegetables and adding depth to sausages, especially in Germany and South Africa. In Russia and Central Europe, coriander seeds are sometimes used in rye bread, such as Borodinsky bread, as an alternative to caraway. Additionally, coriander seeds are a key ingredient in some Belgian wheat beers.
